Xueni Yang
Dancer, Actress, and Writer-Director

Xueni Yang is a Chinese-born, Prague-based dancer, actress, and writer-director with a strong foundation in contemporary and classical Chinese dance. Her work bridges dance, physical theatre, and screen performance, often exploring the intersection of gesture, story, and presence.
Trained in China, the U.S., and Europe, Xueni studied contemporary dance with Shen Wei Dance Arts and Broadway Dance Center in New York, and continues to refine her artistic vocabulary through ongoing training—most recently in the contemporary dance workshops with 420People. Her approach to movement is rooted in both the rigor of classical technique and the spontaneity of contemporary practice.
She first applied her choreographic knowledge to stage acting as assistant director on the immersive physical theatre piece Shape or Shaped (Beijing, 2017). She went on to create narrative-driven movement for the music video Memories of the Wind (New York, 2018) and the short film Hush (Prague, 2020), further grounding her in body-based storytelling.
As a performer, Xueni has appeared in numerous international film and commercial productions, including a role in Blade Runner 2099, as well as recent commercials for Samsung and Fuji Instax. Her hybrid practice allows her to navigate seamlessly between camera and stage, bringing a dancer’s sensitivity to each role. Her ongoing acting work also informs her movement teaching, particularly in empowering actors to engage with their bodies more expressively.
Fluent in Chinese and English, Xueni brings a transnational perspective to performance and pedagogy. She believes in movement as a tool of transformation—physically, emotionally, and imaginatively—and is committed to helping students develop their unique voice through the language of the body.
