Choreography and Blocking in Performance

PROGRAM OUTLINE

For most directors, the choreography and composition to accompany their work is not an after-thought; rather it is an essential, meaningful ingredient in the duration of the whole performance-making process. Directors often collaborate with choreographers and movement directors to plan, create, and realize dance or movement design concept. 


The aim of this course is to demonstrate the basics of the movement directing, how working collaboratively, allow to present a rich and organic way of the performance building process. The central topic is an exploration of ways to create choreography and movement in the performance.

  •  Tempo and Rhythm 

  •  Montage

  •  Movement for Actors

  •  Acting for Dancers 

  •  Improvisation and Spontaneity 

  •  Dance Composition 


Objectives:

  • Understanding of the director's role in movement directing

  • Grow an ability to create a tempo-rhythm in performance 

  • Gain tools and skills to create choreography independently 

  • Build a foundation for communicating the artistic vision to the choreographer

  • Understand how to encourage the choreographer to contribute to your ideas and how to produce joint ideas


Format: 

distant tasks, assignments, self-studies, teacher-student interaction and others.

Upon successful completion of all tasks, students can receive a Certificate of Completion.
