Alexia Maegraith

An Interdisciplinary Performance Artist

Alexia Maegraith

Alexia Lubimova is an Australian interdisciplinary performance and circus artist based in Berlin. Her work brings together circus, dance, theatre, burlesque, and conceptual performance, combining physical skill with extreme characterisation, conceptual nuance, and political engagement.

Through her practice, Alexia aims to make the absolute visible, with everything circling back to her ethos: “Art is a reflection of my spirit, my spirit deserves to be seen. Your art is a reflection of your spirit, your spirit deserves to be seen.” Her work examines the politics of what it means to be alive, using the body as a site of confrontation, transformation, and repair.

Alexia’s practice bridges rigorous physical training with conceptually driven performance, exploring themes of embodiment, ritual, identity, and transformation. She is interested in the tension between the sacred and grotesque nature of the human experience and in the ways the body can communicate what language cannot.

Now based in Berlin, Alexia began her classical and contemporary dance training in Australia at a young age with J.O. International Productions. She went on to study theatre, television and film, and classical vocals before majoring in Musical Theatre at the Australian Performing Arts Grammar School. During this time, she performed in productions including Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and became a national contemporary and acrobatic dance champion in 2014.

In 2018, Alexia discovered her love for circus arts, a discipline that continues to shape much of her work. Since then, she has developed a hybrid practice that moves between aerial performance, contortion, acrobatics, dance, burlesque, and physical theatre. Her work is grounded in the use of the body not only as an instrument of spectacle but also as a vehicle for storytelling.

Alexia has toured Australia with independent productions including Sideshow Fems and Delightfully Debauched, performing across national fringe festivals and contributing to large-scale productions throughout the country, including the Woodford Folk Festival in 2024.

Alongside her performance work, Alexia is increasingly developing her practice as a choreographer, director, and creator of original performance works. She is currently a contracted cast member at Kleine Nachtrevue Theatre in Berlin, where her work focuses on choreography, acrobatics, and burlesque.
