The importance of visual effects in performances influenced modern professional theatre directors to pay more attention to design as a tool for creating an atmosphere and style of the performance. 

This course mostly focused on practical tasks for directors that brings better understand and technical skills in the basics of composition, stage plans, storyboarding, scale models atmosphere creation through the use of a particular design concept. The practice goes in hand with some theories, textual analysis, and recommended readings. Emphasis is placed on general play analysis, as well as the investigation of design principles from a director's perspective.

Objectives: 

• Develop the director's clear artistic vision of particular performance

• Understanding of how to create a stage plan for your project and why director needs it

• Understanding the aspects of the role of director in design 

• To use storyboards as special tools to understand the layout of the scene;

• To be able to build a useful storyboard which will support you during the whole production process

• To create a final performance storyboard book which you can present to producers and agents. 

Format: Each week students receive distant tasks, assignments, cases for self-studies which gradually lead them to understanding of the topic and ability to apply knowledge to the projects.
